Tyrann Mathieu the star defensive back for the LSU Tigers is gone. Earlier today LSU Coach Les Miles dismissed the “Honey Badger”  2011 Heisman Trophy finalist from its football program  for unknown violating school and team rules.

“We extended ourselves personally and professionally to him,” LSU coach Les Miles said at a news conference Friday. “He has really improved and has a chance to take some steps as a person.”

Miles would not specify the reason Mathieu, who was suspended for a game last year for failing a drug test, was kicked off the team. “Both,” he said when asked if it was a team rule or a school rule. He said it was not a legal issue.

“I complied and agreed that it was right,” Miles said. “We’ll miss the guy. The football team’s got to go on. We’ll have to fill the void.”

Mathieu the junior defensive back who helped the Tigers win the SEC championship and reach the BCS title game won the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation’s best defensive player is was a huge reason LSU was viewed as many as the best team in the SEC and college football.

We have no idea why Mathieu’s was released from the tigers but I hope he quickly finds a team and helps lead them to a national championship. There are rumors Mathieu’s may look at a lower D-1 school but I could see USC head coach Lane Kiffin stepping in and finding a roster spot for the Heisman Finalist.
