We all hear over and over how dreams come true. Follow your heart and passion and anything is possible. I’ve heard that line over and over in Life and for proof that its true all we must do is look at Maalik Wayns.

Wayns, who is a Philly native and was a All-American guard at Roman Catholic and 3 year contributor  as a Villanova Wildcats is staying home after signing his first NBA deal with Doug Collins and the Philadelphia Sixers.

In his junior season under Jay Wright, Wayns averaged 17.6 points, 4.6 assists and one steal per game while shooting over 41 percent from the field. He was advised to stay on for his senior season and help the Cats for his last NCAA March Madness run but decided to enter the 2012 NBA draft and risk not being taken late in the second round.

According to reports the deal is worth roughly 474,000 but will ensure Wayns a spot on the Sixers roster or a D-League spot worst case scenario. Friday, Wayns tweeted, “Dreams do come true never let somebody tell you what you can’t be or where u can’t go #tearsofjoy #Amen.”

It’s a great feeling to see a young man get to not only live out his dream but do it in the city he is from. With the recent signing of veteran guard Royal Ivey both Jrue and Maalik have a mentor to help them grow as elite guards in the NBA. Let’s see if Wayns can work hard enough to get some of those bench minutes the Sixers will miss without former Sixers leading scorer Lou Williams. Good Luck Maalik.
