AP138190998335 Russell Wilson Brushes Off Claims That He's "Not Black Enough"

Yesterday afternoon, Russell Wilson brought his Seattle Seahawks team back from the brink of defeat to pull out  a 13-9 win over the Carolina Panthers.

Not the prettiest offensive effort, Wilson proved on the field that when there’s seconds left on the clock, he’s the man on that team!

Now that hasn’t stopped the rumors that he doesn’t hold that title in the locker room. After Percy Harvin was traded to the New York Jets last week, gossip trickled out that there was a faction of players in the Seahawks locker room who weren’t all the way sold on Wilson as their leader. Some even thought he wasn’t “Black enough” to the squad.

He brushed off those rumors when asked about them after yesterday’s game.

When asked about the rumors, Russell answered:

“I think it was people trying to find ways to knock us down, but we just keep swinging and keep believing in each other. We keep believing in the people that we have in the room and we keep believing in the coaching staff. We keep believing in our fans, we keep believing in each other and there is no doubt that we are together. There is no doubt that we are more together than ever before.

“And so, in terms of me, the ‘not black enough’ thing I think you are talking about, I don’t even know what that means. I don’t know. I believe that I am an educated, young male that is not perfect. That tries to do things right, that just tries to lead and tries to help others and tries to wins games for this football team, for this franchise. And that’s all I focus on.”

Lets hope the Seahawks can get past this moment and focus on making the play-offs.
