July 16, 2014 0

On the heels of the release of The Art behind The Tape, first book written about the history of mixtape cover art, DJ Mars and his team have created a docu-series entitled “The Mix Behind The Tape.” The series features interviews about mixtape culture from some of the top DJ’s and artists in the game. Candid conversations with the likes DJ Clark Kent, J Period, Don Cannon, DJ Sense and Killer Mike give a bird’s eye view into the history of the mixtape game. Esteemed writer and co-author Maurice Garland also steps in to exemplify the rich mixtape history that has almost been forgotten.

J Mars sits down with “God’s Favorite DJ,” Brooklyn’s Own Clark Kent to discuss the influence park jams had on mixtape culture. He talks about the origin of mixtapes in the clubs and the impact of early pioneers like Brucie B, LoveBug Starski and Kid Capri. He also gives his opinion on who he feels is the first mixtape DJ!

The book (The Art Behind The Tape) is now available for pre order. The first 100 people also get the limited edition The Art Behind the Tape x New Era snapback.
