It’s safe to say that Chicago-born super producer Young Chop is the Dr. Frankenstein of Chicago rap’s drill movement. His work with Chief Keef, Lil Durk, Lil Reese and Fredo Santana, among others, has given birth to a collective run of supremacy the likes of which Windy City Hip-Hop has never seen before.

While in Atlanta working on new music, Young Chop spoke with HHS1987’s El Dorado on executive producing Lil Durk’s major label debut, being nominated for a Grammy, working with Kanye West & much more.

“Everything that come out from [300] I executive produce,” Chop said when asked about the role he could potentially play as the overseer of Lil Durk’s Def Jam debut slated for release later this year. “I executive produced Chief Keef’s album, ‘Finally Rich’, and I mixed it, engineered it, and all that shit. I do all that shit.”

His sonic expertise has not gone unnoticed, as Chop was nominated for a Grammy last year for his work on Kanye West’s latest album ‘Yeezus’.

“The Grammys, that shit felt good,” he said of being an award nominee, “I’m like ‘Damn, ‘Yeezus’ got nominated for a Grammy?’ shit, thank you.” He also assured El Dorado that he has more work with his fellow Chicagoan on the way.  “I got some more shit coming with Kanye too, by the way. Motherfuckers don’t know; we got some hard ass shit.”

Chop also got a chance to discuss his influences as a producer, the status of his Chop Squad crew, and working with producers TM88 and Metro Boomin’ in the future.
