Drake went on a mini-Twitter rant on Thursday 2/13 in regards to his most recent Rolling Stone appearance. Drizzy was promised a cover, but with the untimely death of actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman, he was given a feature instead. Drake also took to Twitter to say that Rolling Stone fabricated what he said about Kanye’s most recent album, Yeezus. The Toronto native released an apology letter to the magazine on Friday 2/14 explaining why he was so angry. Drake’s biggest concern was that he did not have a final say in what was used in the interview, including the photos used in the feature saying, “I was not able to salvage my story or my photos,” before adding “they ran the issue without giving me a choice to be in it or not.” He also apologized about his Phillip Seymour Hoffman comments saying that he would have opted out of the issue because of it’s magnitude had he been given the option.

The Rolling Stone/Drake saga was thought to be over until Kanye West stepped on stage at the Prudential Center in Newark on Saturday 2/15. Ye ranted for 20 minutes about a few things with Drake being the highlight. He said, “Those magazines keep trying to put niggas against each other. We love Drake, we ain’t letting that shit happen no more.” Later in the rant, he touched on Nike/Adidas, Macklemore and the Grammy’s, hip hop’s negative portrayal by the media and more.

I rarely agree with anything Kanye says during a rant, but I can see where he is coming from on this one. There is a strong possibility that because Drake didn’t have the final sign-off on his interview that his words were misconstrued which could have lead to a rift between the rappers. With that being said, Drake did handle things the wrong way and should have just issued the letter from the jump but it’s clear that he saw he made a mistake. Watch Kanye’s rant for yourself below.
