After winning a couple Grammy awards last night for his single “i”, Kendrick Lamar did not hesitate to release a new song. “The Blacker The Berry,” produced by Boi-1da, is a record off his highly anticipated, untitled album. The OVO producer, assisted by Terrace Martin, laced the new track with kickdrums and snares that are as raw as unprotected sex – or sushi, for those who wrap it up (as you should be doing, anyways).
The gritty elements of the track compliment Kendrick’s flow to perfection. And it’s a complete 360 from his Grammy-winning single. “The Blacker The Berry” covers an array of social issues that currently plague our country.
