Gina Belafonte Talks Her Father Harry Belafonte’s Legacy, “Many Rivers Festival” Ft. Carlos Santana, T.I., Common & Others, Sanfoka.org & More with HHS1987 (Video)

On October 1st and 2nd, many of today’s biggest artistic talents, music and arts lovers and activist looking for social justice  will embark on a festival like no other. Sanfoka.org is set to present the “Many Rivers Festival” on October 1st and 2nd and recently HHS1987’s Terrell Thomas (Eldorado) had a chance to catch up with one of the founders of Sanfoka.org and “Many Rivers Festival” Gina Belafonte to discuss an array of topics.

Gina Belafonte has been fighting and standing up for social justice since the day she was born. As the daughter of actor, entertainer and social activist Harry Belafonte, Gina Belafonte is leading the movement to continue her father’s work so we asked Gina to speak with us on her fathers legacy, Sanfoka, “Many Rivers Festival” and much more.

Gina Belafonte gave us deep insight on her father’s work and their efforts with Sankofa.org. Kicking off “Many Rivers Festival” in the beginning of October, Gina Belafonte discuss the purpose of doing the festival now, who all is involved in the “Many Rivers Festival” and she revealed some of the talent set to perform.

“Many Rivers Festival” is a festival where grammy-winning hip-hop artist T.I. and Macklemore, Singers/Songwriters Aloe Blacc, Goapele and Alice Smith, Grammy-Winning Jazz Vocalist Dianne Reeves, Grammy Award Nominated A Cappella Ensemble Sweet Honey In The Rock, and Artist/Actor/Activist Jussie Smollett have signed on to perform at the event, joining the celebrated line-up that features a mix of artists and thought-leaders including John Legend, Chris Rock, Jesse Williams, Common, Estelle, Dave Matthews, Carlos Santana, Public Enemy, Danny Glover and Dr. Cornel West.

Along with multiple performance stages, music fans will be able to be part of the “Social Justice Village” integrated throughout the Festival to engage Sankofa.org and its social justice partners, get informed on current issues, interact with activists and thought-leaders, and find out how they can help impact change in their own communities.

Not only did Gina Belafonte break down “Many Rivers Festival”, she discussed Sankofa.org and their mission.Sankofa.org is a social justice organization founded by Harry Belafonte that enlists the support of today’s most celebrated artists and influential individuals in collaboration with grassroots partners to elevate the voices of the disenfranchised and promote justice, peace, and equality.

Before concluding the interview, we spoke with Gina Belafonte on how people can get involved in “Many Rivers Festival & Sankofa.org as well as what the future holds for both.
