On Sunday March 5th, the Atlanta Hawks fell to a record of (34-28) after losing to Paul George and the (32-30) Indiana Pacers (97-96) at Philips Arena. The Hawks led from much of the game but a late Glenn Robinson III shot won the game for Indiana.
Things looked good early for the Hawks as they jumped out to a (30-19) lead after the first quarter. The Hawks also were strong in the paint getting 36 points from that area but the third quarter of play seemed to be the difference in the game. After being tied at halftime, the Pacers outscored Atlanta (31-24) in the third quarter. Tim Hardaway Jr. was the high scorer for the Hawks finishing with 24 points on (9-16) shooting from the field. Hawks all-star Paul Millsap was also efficient scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds. Newly acquired Hawks guard Jose Calderon was not in the lineup on Sunday and Darvin Ham coached the game as Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer served his one game suspension for bumping a ref in Friday’s lose to the Cavaliers.
Indiana moved on to a record of (32-30) largely thanks to their three point shooting and the play of their all-star Paul George. Paul George finished the day with 34 points after scoring 24 points in the first half. George shot (12-19) from the field with 5 rebounds and 4 assist. In his return to Philips Arena to face his former team, Pacers guard Jeff Teague finished the day with 16 points and 6 assist. Glenn Robinson III has a huge game off the bench and he hit the game winning corner three point shot. Robinson scored 11 points including the game winner shooting (3-5) from the floor.
Following the game we caught up with Atlanta Hawks stars Tim Hardaway Jr. and Paul Millsap. Despite the tough loss, both stars owned their teams in game mistakes and want to learn from it but realize they must move on fast. Millsap spoke on his 23 points, defending Paul George and not making key mistakes late in games. Tim Hardaway Jr. spoke on bouncing back quickly as the Hawks prepare to host the Golden State Warriors in their second game of a back to back on Monday night.
