CLE-500x281 Change Gon' Come: The Cleveland Indians Will Remove The Chief Wahoo Logo From Caps & Jerseys in 2019

A very controversial professional sports logo is getting a change. Starting in 2019, the Cleveland Indians have announced they will be removing the Chief Wahoo logo from all their jerseys and caps on the field.

The Cleveland Indians are not completely tossing away the logo though. The Cheif Wahoo logo will still be on caps and clothing sold at the Indians team store the logo just won’t be seen on players on the field. Removing the Cheif Wahoo logo has been a major topic for years as many feel the logo is racist and doesn’t represent the Native American culture.

With the change coming for the Cleveland Indians, the next task for some is getting other professional sports teams with logos or nicknames that may be offensive or racist to remove or change their names as well. In the NFL, I know several Native American groups have asked the Washington Redskins to change their name. The same goes for the Atlanta Braves (MLB) and Chicago Blackhawks (NHL). Only time will tell if they decide to join the party as well.

Chief Wahoo’s logo first appeared in 1948 and now in 2018, a change is coming. Do you think a change was needed? Let me know. Stay tuned to HHS1987. Follow @eldorado2452 on Twitter and Instagram for all your sports news.
