The 2018-19 NBA is upon us and after losing their first two games of the season, the Atlanta Hawks picked up a big win on the road Sunday night in Atlanta.

The Atlanta Hawks picked up a (133-111) victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers Sunday evening moving the Hawks to a record of (1-2). The win was big for the Hawks because it was the first regular season victory for Hawks first year head coach Lloyd Pierce. The victory was also big for the Hawks because it was also a breakout performance by Hawks rookie Top 5 pick Trae Young.

All summer long I’ve been preaching that Trae Young will be this years NBA rookie of the year and if things continue to roll like this for Trae he will earn that honor.

On Sunday night Trae Young joined some elite company as a rookie scoring 35 points and dishing out 11 assist. The only other rookies to ever drop at least 35 points and 11 assist in a game were Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Sherman Douglas, Stephen Curry, Derrick Rose and Allen Iverson. That’s some pretty elite company.

Not only did Trae Young drop 35p and 11ast, Kent Bazemore finished with 23 points and 5 rebounds and fellow Hawks rookie Omari Spellman finished with 17 points. Young’s 35 points were the most by an Atlanta Hawks rookie since 1975.

The Atlanta Hawks are back in action on Wednesday October 24th in their home opener against the Dallas Mavericks. Follow @eldorado2452 on Twitter and Instagram for all your Atlanta Hawks, NBA and sports news.
