Khemist began writing music at the age of 14. Growing up in the heart of North Philadelphia, Khemist was not oblivious to the poverty, crime, and misfortune around him.In March of 2010, Khemist was honored for his dedication to his education, his community, and his artistry as a writer and emcee byThe Jr. Music Executive Program. Khemist received the Diamond in the Rough Award from the organization, of which he has been an active member. His big break came in April 2010, when he performed at 100.3 The Beat’s Philly Home Jamz Concert at the Trocadero. Khemist’s performance was cited as one of the best of the night by some of the most respected figures in the Philadelphia music community. Other performers included Freeway, Gillie Da Kid, Chill Moody, and Meek Mill.
Currently a print journalism major at Hampton University, Khemist has built a dedicated audience in both Virginia and Philadelphia. During the summer of 2011 Khemist was honored to perform on theNBC 10! Show, NBC6 Live Miami, at SOBs in New York City, and for Vitaminwater Uncapped in Philadelphia. As a breakout artist he was also featured in a Philly 360 Spotlight and on Fuse TV’s Hip Hop Shop.
