i Philadelphia Native And NFL Films President Steve Sabol Dies (1942-2012)

It saddens me to inform NFL fans that today NFL Films president Steve Sabol passed away due to Brain Cancer.

Sabol who was born and raised in Philadelphia,PA was a pioneer in how we watch american football today. His father Ed Sabol founded NFL Films and when he died Steve took over the company taking film and highlights to a new height in the NFL. When ESPN was founded in the 1970s Steve worked for them as a on air personality and editor. Sabol’s work has won him over 40 Emmys and both him and his father are NFL Hall of Famers and are members of the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame. In the later part of Steve’s career he was extremely involved in founding the NFL network and creating NFL Red Zone.

I remember watching NFL films on saturday afternoons after my FOX saturday morning cartoon lineup X-Men and Spider-man and Sabol and his show helped me learn the game of football and grow to appreciate the game for all this it bring. Sabol’s presence will be missed but his work will never be forgotten. I think of him as the Steve Jobs’ of NFL viewing experience.
