Early Life and Start in Music
At 14 years old, Jelani Lofton entered the music scene for the first time in early 2019. He is part of the “new wave” of teen musicians since he will be 18 by early his beginnings lie with SoundCloud under the username KILJ where he put out his first release titled Black Hole in late June. He followed that up a few weeks later with 95 with sadtaylor, which has garnered over a million streams to date. As of Better Off Alone, KILJ has over 1 million streams. His most popular song is No Remedy. Currently sitting at 4 million streams.
KILJ’s Style
KILJ’s music spans from hip hop to soulful R&B and everything in between. He writes all of his own music and expresses a variety of moods that are relatable for his diverse listeners. KILJ’s style is what sets him apart from other musicians his age, but also makes him an artist that can touch many people at once. I love my art form, he says. The only thing I want is for others to know how much it means. It feels like a great sense of accomplishment when someone tells me they love my song or favorite song, or when they tell me I make them feel better. That’s exactly what music is supposed to do.
