SF Bay Area native Goapele who has one of the most alluring and powerful voices of our time is set to perform at the World Café in support of her album, “Break Of Dawn,” which was released last fall. On the album she collaborates with an array of creative folks including Kerry “Krucial” Brothers, Bobby Ozuna, Malay, Bedrock and Dan Electric. Fans will bare witness to a more free-spirited Goapele.

“One of my goals for [Break of Dawn] was to be more uninhibited,” Goapele says. “I came into this business as a young woman who wanted to lay a foundation of musical integrity and now I’m more willing to share my sensuality as well. I realize that it’s possible to be both complex and provocative.”  This is expressed in her new single, “Tears On My Pillow.” The soul moving ballad is a sensual masterpiece produced by Bobby Ozuna. The video was directed by John Mazyck and showcases Goapele in a high fashion themed setting that is both mysterious and whimsical. Like her previous videos, fans can expect a testimony driven, heartfelt clip filled with poignant scenes of passion and substance.

Goapele makes her big screen debut next month in the highly anticipated remake, “Sparkle.” The film stars the late, Whitney Houston, Jordin Sparks, Mike Epps, and Derek Luke to name a few. The film was directed by Salim Akil.

Goapele captivated the music industry in 2001 with her stunning independently released debut disc Even Closer earning fans and musical champions ranging from her superstar musical contemporaries Erykah Badu, Mos Def and Kanye West to such legendary luminaries as Prince and Stevie Wonder. She was roundly hailed for consistently delivering testimony-driven, emotionally charged yet uplifting soulful cuts which skillfully blend hip hop, jazz, and melodic R&B. A critical darling, Time Out New York called her “A remarkable breath of fresh air in an increasingly crowded soundgarden.”  Her hometown newspaper the San Francisco Chronicle said, “She possesses a keen social sensibility that, coupled with a poet’s eye, delivers heavy messages with uncommon grace.” Billboard Magazine raved “Goapele’s smoky, sensual voice is a beacon that shines.”
