Thanks to a great final run after the NBA All-Star break, New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony has won his first NBA scoring title edging Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant by .6 points per game.

Current three time reigning scoring champ Kevin Durant posted a note on Instagram informing NBA fans he will not play tonight versus the Milwaukee Bucks and so he will finish the season averaging 28.1 points per game this season. If Durant would have elected to fight for his fourth scoring crown he would have needed 70 points tonight and Carmelo would have to sit out tonight against the Atlanta Hawks which he will.

Carmelo Anthony is currently averaging 28.7 points per night and joins Bernard King as the only to Knicks to win the NBA scoring title. Carmelo’s late-season surge has helped the New York knicks win the Atlantic Division title and secure the number two seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

The New York Knicks will host the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2013 NBA Playoffs.
