Tray Chaney’s latest single, “LIVE (WORLD AIDS) ANTHEM,” is a call to action. Inspired by “KEEP THE PROMISE” March Aids Healthcare Foundation Event in Atlanta during August 2012, where he performed alongside R&B singer Monica in support of HIV/AIDS testing, research, and funding,.

“I want to stress the importance of people getting tested,” Tray says. “Beyond that, it’s crucial to remember that while we have a lot of work to do in terms of research and care, even with the disease, there’s still a lot to live for.”

Perhaps best known as the character “POOT” from THE WIRE, HBO’s groundbreaking series about crime and punishment in the wastelands of Baltimore, Maryland, Tray continues to use his celebrity for the greater good.

His debut album, BE INSPIRED (Firedrop Records, 2012) features 11 spry hip-hop anthems dedicated to inspiring young people and encouraging them to become active and dedicated role models in their communities. From “FATHERHOOD,” the album’s first single, which stresses the importance of young people having father figures in their lives, to “MIKE BULLY,” the album’s latest single, calling for an end to hateful and destructive bullying among young people, Tray’s music effortlessly combines fluid skill with a positive message to create something truly unique.

“Music is a way for me to inspire people,” Tray says. “At a certain point, it’s just not about me anymore; it’s about using what I have and the opportunities I’ve been given to make a positive impact on society.”

The video for “LIVE (WORLD AIDS) ANTHEM” was shot entirely on location in Atlanta, Georgia at The AIDS Memorial Quilt Foundation headquarters. “The quilt tells a story,” Tray says. “An important story. My hope is that my music does the same.”
