On Aug. 1, 1995, Raekwon cemented his place in music history with the release of his debut solo project, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx. The Purple Tape Files: The Documentary & Film is slated to be a retrospective look at Raekwon’s critically acclaimed album and its impact on modern pop culture. Beyond interviews with notable artists, journalists, industry insiders and music aficionados, the project will also bring to life the vivid imagery that drove the album’s cult classic status to the big screen. The Grammy Nominated emcee has opted to utilize crowdfunding as the film’s primary source of financing to maintain the film’s integrity. “To ensure the validity and vision of the project, I felt that crowdfunding was the only way to go. This film will be true to the album 100%. This project is for the fans, by the fans,” he expounds.
Known for pushing existing boundaries, Raekwon does not disappoint fans with his custom crowdfunding incentives. “We created incentives that real fans will enjoy,” he states. Fans can join this historical project by donating anywhere from $5.00 – $10,000.00, but the incentives are not your typical celebrity offerings.
