Amar’e Stoudemire’s time with the New York Knicks has come to an end. Stoudemire and the Knicks have agreed to part ways via a buyout and now Amar’e is a free agent again.

According to the NY Post,

Amar’e Stoudemire’s five-year run with the Knicks is over, a $100 million stay that ended in a spate of injuries and declining play.

The buyout negotiations went smoothly and were completed on Sunday, according to sources.

Stoudemire’s reign is history, and he is free to sign elsewhere.

Knicks owner James Dolan and Stoudemire had a very close relationship across the years. Dolan wanted what was best for the All-Star power forward whose stint was marred by knee surgeries and a disk problem. Dolan could have felt ripped off because of the injuries that plagued the club, but instead believes Stoudemire brought the team credibility when it was needed.

Stoudemire was at his beach house in Miami while his partner in crime, Carmelo Anthony, competed in Sunday night’s All-Star Game, on the verge of shutting it down for the season with a bad left knee. How fitting.

After the game at the Garden, Anthony said Stoudemire was the reason he came to New York.

“I’m losing a friend and teammate, and guy I wanted to come to the city and play with,’’ Anthony said. “He’s one of the main reasons I’m a New York Knick. The situation we’re in right now, I know what he wants. You only want what’s best for [your] friend. He wants to play for a championship. He wants to play for a contender. Nobody should hold that back from him.’’

Anthony said he realizes the positives Stoudemire gave to New York basketball, despite his injuries.

“Amar’e brought something back to New York that was missing and needed something for a long time,’’ Anthony said. “He brought back some excitement for the game of basketball. There was hope and people started believing. He was the main reason for that hope.’’

Now that Amar’e is a free agent, a few teams are looking to add his talents to their roster. The Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks and San Antonio Spurs are the top teams in the runnings and Amar’e could be in a new former by this Thursday.
