The Atlanta Hawks are currently under .500 with a record of (13-14) after a (107-99) lost to the (15-13) Charlotte Hornets on Saturday December 17th at Philips Arena. The Atlanta Hawks started the game strong and it was a tightly contested ball game for all four quarters. The Hawks were batting the Hornets in a matchup for first place in the NBA’s Southwest division but a strong second quarter for the Hornets may have been the difference in the game.
The Hawks started the season strong but recently have put together a stretch of losses that has Hawks fans scratching their heads. Tim Hardway Jr. finished the game with 21 points on (7-17) in 33 minutes of play. Dwight Howard was dominate in the paint grabbing 23 rebounds and finishing with 10 points. Paul Millsap was efficient with 20 points 5 rebounds and 5 assist and Kent Bazemore was (7-13) for 17 points off the bench.
For the Charlotte Hornets, out scoring the Hawks (31-20) in the second quarter in my opinion was the difference in the game. Kemba Walker continues to play like a MVP for Buzz City. Walker finished the game with 18 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds. Former Hawk Marvin Williams and free agent pick up Marco Belinelli both shot extremely well from the field and both finished with 19 points. Williams was (7-10) from the field, Belinelli was (8-11) from the field off the bench. Hornets big man Cody Zeller was also key in the win for his effort against the Atlanta Hawks big men. Zeller grabbed 11 rebounds and scored 16 points in 36 minutes of action.
The Atlanta Hawks are back in action on Monday December 19th on the road against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Hawks return home on Wednesday December 21st as they host the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Charlotte Hornets host the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday December 20th. Stay tuned to HHS1987 for more NBA news.
