The Legion – Drop The Beat (Video)

The Legion’s slick new video for “Drop The Beat” showcases the Bronx rap trio doing what they do best, delivering clever braggadocio over funky production on the streets of New York.

There’s a raw, minimalist feel to the visuals directed by Pritt Kalsi that really complements the overall vibe of the veteran trio. Group members Cee-Low The Diceman, Molecules (who also produced the track), and Chucky Smash have a low-key bravado that is neither in-your-face nor contrived. Rather, it’s a well-earned confidence that makes their rhymes more authentic and real, and that sentiment carries on throughout the video.

In addition to highlighting each member’s verse, “Drop The Beat” shows love to the streets that raised and influenced The Legion. Namely, all three members post up on one of the borough’s most famous locale, Westchester Ave (by the Soundview/Morrison Ave 6 train), to spit bars about the past and the present. It’s the rhymes about their history that have the most impact thanks to some sleek editing on the production side, which includes a photo of Molecules from years back when he spits, “And I had that big-ass chain/ It was glistenin’.”
