Kareem “Biggs” Burke, co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, was arrested on October 15th along with 42 other people as part of a marijuana smuggling ring. One of the other arrested suspects is Matthew Stang, a writer and editor for High Times Magazine, a publication dedicated to the weed culture.
The ring is purported to have dominated the marijuana market in New York City for 20 years with Burke being accused of his involvement with the ring since 1992. The ring supposedly smuggled marijuana from Florida into New York using tractor-trailers. Agents confiscated $1 million in drug profits and 177 pounds of marijuana in the 18-month operation dubbed “Operation Green Venom”. Kareem “Biggs” Burke and the other suspects face 10 years to life for allegedly distributing over 1,000 kilograms of marijuana.
