This weekend is the 5th annual “Kicks for Kids” charity shoe drive.
The visionary behind the plan, The Sneaker Suiteowner/creator-Ian, has teamed up with numerous organizations, radio stations, and celebrities within the past 5 years to bring forth awareness to this worthy cause including the likes of: recording artists’ Wale, Raheem Devaughn, Mya, the NBA’s Steve Francis, and countless local/nationally recognized individuals. Just last year alone, the donations received purchased over 400 pairs of new kid’s sneakers. On this year’s roster, local retail shoe stores such as Shoe City, Reebok, one of D.C’.s most talented photographer’s Lavan Anderson of Everyday Lavan Photography, Young & Reckless clothing line, and a compilation of other sponsors will make collaborative efforts with The Children’s National Medical Center. This year’s donations will benefit The National Children’s Center (Northeast, and Southeast Washington D.C. locations specifically) to fulfill the continued mission of giving sneakers to children who are less fortunate within the nation’s capital, during the holiday season.
The day-long event will kick off this Sunday December 18th at 2pm with a meet and greet at the Mall at Prince George’s Plaza in Hyattsville, Maryland with special guest: Maybach Music Groups Meek Mill and NBA star John Wall. Then head over to the 9:30 Club at 5pm for a FREE concert with performances by Meek Mill and other local artist such as Gods’illa, Kingpen Slim, and the Black Alley Band.
