Education is one of the greatest necessities needed to successfully thrive in the world. Malcolm X once said that “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today!” The students within the School District of Philadelphia are not receiving the proper education that they deserve due to funding. Professionals for Progress are suing Governor Corbett for the money that is owed to the School District and if they don’t, we will . In terms of facts and figures, Philadelphia receives 4% of the tax revenues from gaming, ironically, the Pa. Race Horse Development Fund receives12%. Clearly, there is a major problem. How can the development of horses (that are NOT even raised in Philadelphia) receive more funding than educating our children who are supposed to be the future? $252 million has been given to House Race Development in the first 5 months of this year while our education system is depleting.
If anyone is interested in demanding that the City Solicitor fight for more money from Governor Corbett, there is a press conference on Thursday, July 21, 2011 from 11am-12pm in front of City Hall. Following the press conference, there will be a march to 1515 Arch Street to the City Solicitor’s Office to fight for this cause.This will be a positive movement, (sort of like a flash mob (12 Noon) but strictly PROFESSIONAL), letting the government know that we take education seriously and that our children deserve better than what is handed to them.
