A Philadelphia prison remains on lockdown after four inmates were stabbed Tuesday night, one of them fatally.
A 42-year-old inmate was stabbed several times inside the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility. He was taken to Aria-Torresdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 10:30 p.m.
Two 24-year-old inmates and a 28-year-old also were stabbed and were taken to area hospitals where they were reported in stable condition.
Prison Guards Union Local 159 president Lorenzo North said the stabbings happened at around 10 p.m. inside the “C” Building, where guards had found narcotics during a shakedown earlier in the day.
Chopper 6 HD was over the facility located at 7901 State Road shortly before 10:00 p.m.
One man suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest area. He was transported via medics to Aria Hospital Torresdale Division.
A second male, believed to be in his late 20’s to early 30’s, suffered a stab wound to the head. He was transported by medics to Hahnemann Hospital for treatment.
A third male was also transported to Hahnemann Hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening stab wound.
It is not known if all the injured are inmates or who the stabber was.
It’s unclear what the men were stabbed with and how many of them were carrying weapons. Police continued to investigate into Wednesday morning at the prison, located on the 7900 block of State Road.
