Talk about having a bad day at work. After Jacksonville Jags players voted to change their team captain from quarterback David Garrard to running back Maurice Jones-Drew, Garrard has been cut from the Jaguars.
The stunning move was made at about three this afternoon and will save the Jags organization about $9 million this season. Head coach Jack De Rio made it known earlier in the preseason that he was tired of Garrard’s inconsistency and with Dave’s poor preseason the team felt that had no other choice.
Rookie Blaine Gabbert was drafted tenth overall by the Jags this past April but he won’t be handed the starting job just yet. Veteran quarterback Luke McCown will open the season under center against the Titans. With Garrard now being a free agent the Seahawks, Colts, Dolphins, 49ers and Redskins may all be in the running to sign him.
