With all the tabloids following Bernie Fine, former assistant coach for men’s basketball, Syracuse and top rankings are being mentioned in the same sentence. With Kentucky and Ohio State taking losses this past week, Syracuse is now the number one team in college basketball. ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll voted Syracuse as number one. It was a unanimous vote.
From ESPN.com, “We’re proud to be No. 1 in the country,” Boeheim said, according to The Associated Press. “It’s an honor but obviously in today’s world you could only be there until your next game if you’re not careful. There’s so much balance out there. I think it’s still a big honor for our players to get to that spot and we have played well. We have to play better but that’s OK because it’s a great challenge and we’re looking forward it.”
The new top five teams in the ESPN/Coaches Poll are Syracuse, Ohio State, Kentucky, Louisville, and Duke. Maybe Jim Boeheim and Syracuse deserve the number one title. Can they keep it going? Duke was predicted to be the number one team due to their leadership as well by Coach Krzyzewski. Unfortunately Duke couldn’t keep their winning streak on, falling to 9-1. Ohio State is shining with Jared Sullinger and Sam Thompson also with a record of 9-1.
What’s next for Syracuse Orange besides the allegations against Bernie Fine and legal action taken to Joe Boeheim? Will they continue to be undefeated? Obviously they are reacting well under pressure and by ‘well’ I mean winners.
