First of all Meek Mill has been known all throughout Philly for his classic Flamers mixtapes, but Dreamchasers is different. On Dreamchasers, Meek gave us a sample of what an album from him will sound like, while motivating us, showing us his growth, his versatility, giving us club bangers, stories through lyrics, and more.
I was just telling someone on twitter how I start everyday off with track number 2 “Get Dis Money” produced by Harrisburg’s own All Star. This should be everybody’s anthem in the am, it’s motivating and its about chasing money. “When I wake up, first thing on my mind is get this cake up”. I don’t know what type of life you living if that melody doesn’t appeal to you. Tomorrow morning give this record a spin, BUT IT HAS TO BE THE FIRST SONG YOU PLAY OF THE DAY.
Then I skip over a few tracks and blast “Realest U Ever Seen” featuring one of the best underground artists in Philly, NH, yet another record produced by All Star. This right here gives me that soul vibe. Ask my girl I sing the slightly auto tune hook as if it was my own when I’m in the car. Maybe it’s the fact that I have a new car that the hook touches home me so much. “This the realest shit u ever seen (yah) riding hard so clean with my seat back, blowin money like I never even seen that”. Yeah the hook is perfect, I mean for anyone actually living it, if not this song is motivation aka Dreamchasing.
Then to switch the pace up, I blast “Tony Montana”. I repeat the words Meek speaks at the beginning of the record, and then shout out loudly “DJ DRAMA FUCK THESE NIGGAS UP!!!” I never popped a perc but I shout out the first few bars like I did. Meek’s lyrics over Future’s beat are just classic to me. “I pop a perc, I fuck yo bitch, got u blowing up her phone while she sucking dick, yellow bone, hella thick, she know I be getting money like I’m selling bricks.” I’m not a hustler but its something about them bars that make me feel good.
Then from there I blast “Work” ft. Rick Ross (Prod by Lex Luger), then the sequenced records “House Party” ft. Young Chris, and the BIGGEST RECORD OF 2011 HANDS-DOWN “Ima Boss” Ft. Rick Ross (Prod by Jahlil Beats). I’m not even going to get into these 3 records because if you party’d in 2011 you know how big “Ima Boss” is in a club. That song is a million times better if you have a bottle in your hand when it comes on (I’m just saying).
The mixtape is full of bangers, just pick your poison. You have “Tony Story” which Meek paints a vivid image with his words about a youngin in Philly. You have “Body Count” Ft. Rick Ross, “what’s yo body count nigga, I’m double digits”. You have “Middle of the summer”, “Derrick Rose” which is my new favorite song off Dreamchasers that I like to put on repeat. “Don’t Panic” Ft. Yo Gotti and Rick Ross, “Sparkles” Ft. Young Pooh. What I like about “Sparkles” is that it’s a poplin bottles/ stunting record that Young Pooh carries, “50 bottles of ciroc tell the waiter to make it sparkle, 50 bottles of Rose tell em bring the sparkles”.
At the end of the day, Dreamchasers was the best mixtape of 2011. MIXTAPE as a complete, whole project in its entirety, not a song here or there. Meek gives you more bangers in this 21 track mixtape than most albums in 2011. He doesn’t give you any girly R&B records with singers on the hook either. Straight bangers that will have you motivated one second, hype to party & pop bottles the next, got you feeling like a thug and just overall amped and confident by the end of the mixtape. For a mixtape he released in the summer of 2011, I play it more than anything that has come out since then.
These are just my thoughts and everyone is entitled to their own, but to me, other mixtapes and albums Ionly blast for a good few days or a week tops because one or two songs carry it. With this mixtape I can throw it on shuffle and run into a song I won’t skip.
Oh yeah #DREAMCHASERS2 ON THE WAY!!!
