As the NBA playoffs continue and awards are being issued former Duke point guard and current Cleveland Cavs star Kyrie Irving will be named the NBA’s rookie of the year.
Irving, taken first overall by the Cavs averaged 18.5 ppg , 5.4 assists and 3.7 rebounds. Irving also shot 46.9 percent from the field and 39.9 percent from 3-point land. Irving’s game is helping him become the franchise player the Cavs have been hoping for since LeBron James took his talents to South Beach. The Cavs went just 21-45 in this shorten 66 game season but Irving was one of the finest clutch-time players in the league all year shooting an incredible 54.4 percent in the last five minutes of a game within five points.
Kyrie in my opinion was an perfect choice for the award beating out such other players as Minnesota’s Ricky Rubio, the Spurs Kawhi Leonard, the Nuggets Kenneth Faried, Charlotte’s Kemba Walker and the Knicks defensive stud Iman Shumpert.
