Samsung may have already purchased 1 million copies of Jay-Z’s upcoming new album, “Magna Carta Holy Grail,” but a Nielsen SoundScan rep tells MTV that the bulk purchase won’t count towards his sales tallies.
“Nielsen doesn’t count bulk sales,” the spokesperson told MTV News.
And apparently, even if Nielsen SoundScan did count Samsung’s massive purchase, the album still wouldn’t qualify for Platinum status.
A spokesperson for the RIAA told MTV News on Tuesday that albums only become eligible for RIAA certification 30 days after their initial release date.
