The most wonderful time of the year is here again. The grass has been cut, the popcorn has been popped and after former Atlanta Brave Chipper Jones tossed the first pitch it was time to play ball.
As Major League Baseball kicked off opening day The Philadelphia Phillies came to Turner Field to face the Atlanta Braves and kickoff the 2013 season. It was a great game for the home team, not so much for Phillies fans.
Phillies All- Star Pitcher Cole Hamels (0-1) struggled early in his first opening day start and the Phillies couldn’t find a way to recover. He gave up five runs on seven hits, including three homers, with five strikeouts and one walk in five innings.
Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman was on fire driving in three runs with three hits and in making his Braves debut Justin Upton homered to give Braves fans a preview of what could be. The Braves won the game 7-5.
Game 2 of this 3 game series is tomorrow April 3rd at 7:10.
