Recently during his “Salute To Excellence” awards ceremony, HHS1987 caught up with Real Housewives Of Atlanta star and hip-hop pioneer Peter Thomas to discuss his award ceremony, the evolution of Hip-Hop and much more.
With the 2014 BET hip-hop awards set to air in mid October, Peter Thomas decided to host a “Salute To Excellence” ceremony during BET weekend here in Atlanta to celebrate pioneers in Hip-Hop and the entertainment business. As David Banner, T.I., Debra Antney, Kenny Burns and others were honored, Peter spoke on his role in hip-hop and wanting to teach young blacks how to understand the music business.
Having worked with Russell Simmons in the 90s for an Hip-Hop conference known as “How Can I Be Down”, Peter discussed how he has always felt it was important for the kids who want to rap to understand the business and how their summit was a chance to educate future entertainers. Watching Baby Phat, Fubu and Karl Kani grow and become huge urban brands, Peter spoke on Hip-Hop’s role in the world and how the hip-hop culture has shaped the World as we know it today.
Before concluding the interview Peter also spoke on the current state of Hip-Hop and he gave some advice to up and coming entrepreneurs. “All of us are dreamers and we should never stop dreaming” Peter mentioned. “We can’t just came dream however, we must get up and do it”.
