California based duo Drop City Yacht Club have just released their self-produced/self-performed/self-everything’d project entitled CURE FOR COLD WEATHER. They refer to this album as a “free” project and that it was made just for their fans as a way of saying thank you. They described that “free” has a double meaning. In one sense, it refers to the fact that there is no monetary obligation to obtain said project, but also refers to the “freedom” they opted to use creatively. As a group they have a bit of “can’t sit still syndrome” and constantly aim to evolve their sound and ideas. CURE FOR COLD WEATHER is a glimpse into this thought process. Featuring the likes of their California based brethren; IAMSU and P-Lo of HBK gang, Jonn Hart, Problem, Bad Lucc, Clyde Carson and more. They definitely touched more on their hip hop roots and deliver a lyrical prowess that will certainly earn them the respect of their rhyme slinging peers. The rabbit hole doesn’t stop there as “Lazy Saturday” is a nearly 5 minute long track with one verse, one hook and constantly evolving sound bed of what sounds like a Bossa Nova acid trip. After listening to CURE FOR COLD WEATHER it’s safe to say that Drop City Yacht Club won’t easily fit into any one particular box. It’s also safe to say they wouldn’t have it any other way.
