Jay Z and his Roc Nation Sports is slowly inching their way into the boxing lane. David Itskowitch, a veteran in the boxing industry, signed to the brand back in August to take control of it’s boxing division. President and chief of branding and strategy, Michael Yormark, announced that a “huge priority” would be placed on boxing.
50 Cent, who has had his hand in the boxing arena, is now speaking out saying he does not think Jay and his company will fare well in this lane. Fif’s SMS Promotions has been pretty successful so he does know about the business but he could be also realizing he is facing heat since Roc Nation’s first card will take place at the Theater at Madison Square Garden on January 9.
50 told BET,
I think they gonna clean Jay up. The sport of boxing is going to clean him up and he’s going to find out it’s not like any other portion of business that he’s been involved in. You can’t just busy your way into it by purchasing existing companies and stuff like that. You look at the roster of fighters…you have to have experienced people around to run it. But boxing is like the fur coat business…we don’t know how much they actually sold the jacket for.
