2014 has not been a good year for the music industry. According to Forbes, the only album to hit platinum this year has been the soundtrack to the wildy popular Disney movie, Frozen. A single artist has not sold more than one million units. Last year at this time, five different albums hit platinum. To find a best-seller that was released this year you would have to check the number four slot after Frozen, Beyonce’s self-titled album, and Lorde’s Pure Heroine which were both released last year. Eric Church has the best selling album of 2014 with his effort, Outsiders.
Even song sales are on a decrease from last year. In 2013, 83 songs went platinum while only 60 have this year. It’s surprising that more singles haven’t crossed the million sold mark. Sadly, there isn’t much hope for a strong fourth quarter for this year since no chart toppers have projects being released.
