If there wasn’t an elephant in the G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam headquarters before, CyHi The Prynce has let it well be known that there is now. In what most are probably going to perceive as a diss (because the industry is so thirsty for drama), the underdog of the crew stepped up to the mic to channel his aggressions towards his label, but most importantly, his labelboss, Kanye West.
The beauty in Hip-Hop used to be in the fact that emcees weren’t afraid to directly call those out they had a problem with in their rhymes. The game has gotten so soft that rappers are expected to walk on eggshell’s about what they’re feeling. Much respect to CyHi for restoring the feeling. This is Hip-Hop.
With this new release, Elephant In The Room, CyHi makes it clear that he’s unhappy about his position with his label, & he’s ready to level up. He name dropped a few of his compadre’s including Kanye West, whom of which the song is directly targeting, & he even threw a few shots at Pusha T & Teyana Taylor. His team isn’t going hard enough for him so what better way to grasp the attention he’s clearly begging for than to put it in his rhymes.. Over a fire beat, at that. Shoutout to the Cage The Elephant sample used in this record that absolutely takes it to the next level.
Despite the controversy obviously attached to this cut, CyHi just dropped some flamers. I hope he get’s what he’s demanding. We’ll see what comes of this as things roll out, but in the meantime, listen below.
