With his sophomore album being prematurely released via iTunes, it seems that it has done more good than harm for Compton rapper, Kendrick Lamar. To Pimp A Butterfly broke Spotify’s record of 9.6 million streams in one day and is also expected to sell 325,000 units, debuting at number one, according to Billboard.
To celebrate, Kendrick returned to where it all started, Compton; and held an album singing over at Best Buy this past Saturday where he was greeted by tons of fans.
“It feels good to be back in my city, to go out here and see these kids still motivated by my music and by my dreams and aspirations,” the 27-year-old told ABC7.

“I wanna say thank you. Thank you for believing in me since day one. I’ve been doing my thing on the underground scene for years, you know, proud to be putting out any albums,” he said. “These the same people that have been rocking with me so I want to say thank you for believing in me and I believe in you the same, so as long as we believe in each other, I will continue to do this music.”
