proxy1-500x261 May The Force Be With You: Stars Wars Fans Bring "The Force" Frenzy to Hawks vs. 76ers

When the Atlanta Hawks take on the Philadelphia 76ers on Dec. 16 (8 p.m.) the crowd in Philips Arena may be reminiscent of “a galaxy far, far away.”  In celebration of the newest addition to the worldwide phenomenon that is the Star Wars series, the Hawks are inviting fans to come dressed as their favorite Star Wars characters and enjoy an evening dedicated to their favorite film series. (Click here for complete info on costume guidelines.)  Fans will be treated to an exclusive extended movie trailer, giveaways and much more.

The latest in the Stars Wars movie franchise, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is set to open on Dec. 18 and has already amassed more than $50 million in pre-release ticket sales.  Since the eight-part movie series debuted in 1977, it has grossed more than $4.4 billion at box offices across the globe.

“The impact of the Star Wars series on pop culture is phenomenal!  We are excited to bring this added level of engagement to Hawks guests and share this cultural milestone with them,” said Hawks and Philips Arena CEO Steve Koonin.

Partial proceeds from tickets sales for the night will go toward funding a unique experience with the Atlanta Hawks for a child with a chronic or terminal illness and their family through Atlanta-based nonprofit organization, Bert’s Big Adventure.  When you use the promo code “THEFORCEAWAKENS” on hawks.com/starwars $5 from each ticket sold will go to fund a personally-designed experience for the recipient including attending a Hawks game and a Star Wars themed excursion.

Established in 2002 by syndicated radio personality Bert Weiss, Bert’s Big Adventure is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides a magical, all-expenses-paid, five-day journey to Walt Disney World® for children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families.

The night will also include an appearance from the Georgia Garrison 501st Legion.  Fans will have the chance to take photos with this all-volunteer group comprised of costume enthusiasts who “promote interest in Star Wars through the building and wearing of quality costumes for Star Wars-related events as well as contributions to the local community through costumed charity and volunteer work.”
