In the words of the late A$AP Yams 2014 was “the worst year in rap history.” In an effort to help the genre take a turn for the best, Virginia recording artist Young FP kicks off the first quarter with more than wishful thinking. Following up the release of his REVOLT TV liberated Sativa Summer project in addition to dropping his Martin Tucker directed visual for “Wanna C U”, FP unloads not only a new track but gives us insight on his new mindset.
Partially inspired by Nipsey Hussle‘s Proud 2 Pay initiative, we recently caught up with the seasoned entrepreneur to discuss his future business plans as well as what to expect musically from the 757 representative.
Check out his brand new Taylor Supreme produced cut “Pull Up Hop Out” featuring Regular Rell above, our brief conversation with him below and be on the lookout for his upcoming Indica Winter dropping February 10th!
HHS1987: Happy New Year! How was your holiday?
FP: It was great. I was able to spend time with my family and really figure out my next set of moves for the year.
HHS1987: Bet. Let’s jump right into things. How has life changed since heading out L.A. and dropping your Sativa Summer project?
FP: Overall, I just have a new outlook on my purpose and why I was put in the position I’m in.
HHS1987: Elaborate.
FP: I wasn’t put here just to be a rapper. I was put here to spark change. That’s what my new “Campaign For Change” is all about. After watching this documentary about Africa and witnessing Nipsey Hussle work his “Proud 2 Pay” program for the last couple years I came to the conclusion that community support and independent business ownership is key. Not just for me as an individual but for the Hip-Hop genre and the African American community as a whole.
HHS1987: “Campaign For Change”, sounds like you’re running for president.
FP: I am. I’m running for President of the people. I’m going to be shaking hands kissing babies and all that. If I can get the people in Virginia to support me and single handily turn me into a small business owner, I can in-turn create jobs and continue that cycle until we are financially stable again.
HHS1987: So what’s phase one? I’m intrigued.
FP: Phase one is the release of my next project Indica Winter at the end of next month. Trust me it’s going to be a breath of fresh air.
HHS1987: I’m excited to hear it and see things come to fruition for you. Is there anything else you want to leave our audience with before we wrap up?
FP: I just want to say thank you for the interview and and giving me a platform to share my ideas.
HHS1987: The pleasure is all mine. Peace!
FP: Peace!
