The New England Patriots are now the 2014 NFL Champions and although the Patriots played a good game, Seahawks players and Seahawks fans have every right to be upset this morning.
With less then a minute left in the game after a miracle catch by Seattle Seahawks Jerome Kearse, instead of running the ball with Marshawn Lynch on the one yard line, the Seahawks decided to pass the ball and Russell Wilson was picked off by Patriots rookie Malcolm Bulter has he jumped the route and made the play of the night ending the game with that interception.
The Patriots trailed (24-14) in the fourth quarter but Tom Brady stepped up and helped put his team in possession to win. According to NFL.com,
Brady completed a Super Bowl-record 37 passes in 50 attempts, for 328 yards and four touchdowns — the final one coming with 2:02 left to Julian Edelman. Although Brady threw two unsightly interceptions against the vaunted Seahawks, Brady was 13-of-15 passing for 116 yards and two TD passes on the Patriots’ final two drives to overcome a 10-point deficit that felt unassailable.
It’s going to take some time for me to understand why the Seahawks chose to pass instead of handing the ball to Marshawn Lynch. Pete Carroll will have Super Bowl 49 haunting him for the rest of his career. Congrats to the New England Patriots on winning Super Bowl 49.
