Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has been on a bit of the hot seat as of lately and recently Chip addressed the rumors. Former Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy (now a member of the Buffalo Bills) made a few comments about Chip Kelly possibly being a racist due to the fact of the players he has released over the past few years and those comments have taken off.
After releasing NFL Pro Bowlers DeSean Jackson and LeSean McCoy and with letting Jeremy Maclin get away to Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs, many are starting to question the type of player Chip Kelly wants on his team.
According to ESPN,
Kelly said he reached out to McCoy and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, to try to clear the air, but that he hasn’t spoken to McCoy since trading him to Buffalo in March. Kelly said he wasn’t affected by McCoy’s comments.
“It doesn’t hurt me,” Kelly said. “I’m not governed by the fear of what other people say. Events don’t elicit feelings. Beliefs elicit feeling. I understand what my beliefs are and I know how I am.”
Until Thursday, Kelly had not been available to the media since the NFL draft. That was before running back McCoy told ESPN The Magazine that Kelly “got rid of all the black players.”
Kelly has been the Eagles’ head coach for two full seasons, but he gained full control of player personnel decisions after the 2014 season ended. Given that power, Kelly engineered a makeover of the Eagles’ roster. McCoy, quarterback Nick Foles, linebacker Trent Cole, cornerbacks Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher and guard Todd Herremans were traded or released.
In their place, Kelly acquired running backs DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews, quarterback Sam Bradford, linebacker Kiko Alonso and cornerbacks Byron Maxwell and Walter Thurmond.
McCoy, the Eagles’ all-time leading rusher, was traded to Buffalo for Alonso in March.
During a recent press conference, Chip Kelly addressed LeSean McCoy’s accusations. Watch the video below and stay tuned to HHS1987 for all your sports news.
