In the early days when Hip-Hop had JUST began breaking the pavement, there weren’t too many labels out there that could say they really had it going on.
Def Jam Records will always reign supreme within this industry, but at a point, Uptown Records was the place to be. In essence, it still holds a bit of a reputation. Yesterday on Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club”, Uptown Records founder, Andre Harrell stopped by to talk the label as well as the nearing Revolt Music Conference.
For those who were unaware, Uptown Records had their biggest run in the ’80s-’90s. The label was home to Hip-Hop/R&B artists such as Mary J. Blige, Al B. Sure!, Heavy D, Guy & more. P. Diddy started his career at the label as well before starting up Bad Boy Records.
During their interview, Harrell discussed the history of the label, the sound it shaped for the culture, the days of P. Diddy being at the label, & RMC 2015. Pop the champagne, it’s a Champagne & Bubble kind of morning.
