Last night Beyoncé gave a moving performance of “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” at the 57 Annual Grammy Awards. The singer brings us behind the scenes of her performance and explains why she wanted to sing the song. She also spoke on the first time she heard the song as well as her grandparents connection to Martin Luther King Jr.
Bey explains, “First time I heard ‘Precious Lord’ I was a kid and my mother sang it to me, and my mother played me Mahalia Jackson’s version. She sang the song with her eyes closed, and she was a vessel, and it was like God speaking using her body to speak and to heal.”
