For the first time in 11 years, Long Island’s legendary hip hop trio De La Soul have returned to the studio to get started on their new album. However, they can’t do it without your help. The trio has decided to follow in TLC’s foot steps and start a kick starter in order to get donations for the forthcoming album. Setting the goal at $110,000 to be reached by May 2nd, the group has already gotten 1,300 funders raising over $97,000.

As with all Kickstarter projects, donations come with special prizes. There are the requisite shirts, physical copies of music and concert tickets, but there are also some more alluring kickbacks. One lucky fan will spend a day in the studio with De La Soul, enjoying a private listening session and then recording a skit with the group that will appear on the album. The price tag? $7,500.
