Before Fabolous became the musician he is today, the Brooklyn rapper was actually an artist. In a new interview with Billboard, the Roc Nation crooner went into detail saying, “The housing projects in Brooklyn weren’t much of a canvas, people
didn’t know that I had it in me — but I actually went to an art and design high school.” In the video above, Fabolous takes us to Brooklyn Museum’s “Basquiat: The Unknown Notebooks” exhibit where we’re presented with Basquiat poetry in which Fabolous takes a liking to.
“[Basquiat’s] composition books, those are the same books I used for school,” Fabolous says. “And even though he didn’t think of himself as a poet, a lot of rappers write down ideas and verses in the same way he did.”

As far as sneakers go, Fabolous takes us Brooklyn Museum’s new “Rise of Sneaker Culture” exhibit where we see the first All-Star pancake-batter-colored Converses and the vintage Jordan 1s.
“Sneakers are a part of the hip-hop look, going back to Run-D.M.C. You’d see artists and look down at their feet.”
