For all the REAL Lupe Fiasco fans out there, our guy has given us a treat. If anyone can remember how impacting his debut album, Food & Liquor was, one can only wish that timeless material such as that embedded into the 16-track project could be re-released during times like today.
Hip-Hop has had much to say about all the wrongs that have recently occurred in this country, especially that consisting of police abusing power & continuing the oppression of the black man.
Lupe is certainly to be included in any conversations concerning conscious emcees. We don’t expect the conscious to be quiet during the current riots in Baltimore, & we’ve already seen many cultural figures using their influence to help bring some type of peace to the situation. The Game has penned an open letter, Joey Badazz/Pro Era & Wale have taken to the streets to march & protest with citizen, & Beyonce has partnered with the NAACP to support the people of the tumultolous city. Lupe Fiasco lends a helping hand by revisiting his debut album & releasing a video to the very copious, It Just Might Be Ok.
The social issues, poverty strucken “ghettos”, & injustices are all addressed in this visual. The moral of this story breathes life into one sure thing, through all the pain & agony people are suffering from caused by a system that has failed them, we are still a mighty people & we shall endure. We shall prosper.
