As Atlanta artist Phay preps fans for his upcoming October 15th album drop, MAMA, he lets go of another vibe to further build the anticipation. His latest release, US, has a lot of depth to the lyrics, and even the cover art. Phay shares a few words on his latest audio presentation:
The image is a painted rendition of an actual photo taken in the early 50’s. My favorite artist Duane Planes drew it. My grandpa is to the left, my pops is in the middle and my grandpa’s homie is on the right. It really captures the seriousness of life back then. My dad is holding a pistol, and my grandpa’s homie is strapped with bullets. This was their reality. War, turmoil and poverty. The United States appeared to them as some sort of promised land. They wanted to escape their harsh realities. So at 19 years young, my father was granted the opportunity to leave his war-stricken country, and migrate to the US. I made this song for him. I made this song for everybody like him.
