To celebrate his upcoming collaboration with Granjer Records, Bay Area artist Jesse Medina shares the stream of his inebriated new single, “Chasin’ Franklin” featuring rap legend, Kool Keith.
The single is a celebration of hedonism of all kinds, so it’s only fitting that an emcee known for fully enjoying those particular pleasures would make an appearance. We’re talking about Keith, of course, who provides a properly nutty complementary verse boasting left-field rhymes such as “Psychedelic/ Takin’ pills with computers.” It’s an ill follow-up to Medina’s shape-shifting opening bars, which find the San Jose native weaving in and out of the booze-soaked instrumental.
Speaking of, the track is produced by fellow Bay Area resident Mr. Aeks, whose affinity for blending genres within Hip-Hop instrumentals is well-known. And he brings that boundary-pushing approach to “Chasin’ Franklin” as well, mixing jazzy brass with Boom bap to great result.
“Chasin’ Franklin” is now available through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms, and is set to be featured on Granjer Records’ forthcoming compilation LP Thiswaywestward. The track is also accompanied with the release of a comic book that details Jesse’s adventures with the eccentric Dr. Octagon. The comic is available at select comic book retailers in the LA and the Bay Area, and can be purchased directed via Soft Comics online, and requesting a copy.
