It’s a pure Funk jam on “Nile Rodgers (Git On Down),” as Fullee Love, f/k/a Soup of Jurassic 5, pays homage to one of the genre’s godfathers for the debut leak of his forthcoming LP, Free, White & 21, produced entirely by Nick Green of The Internet.
From the sparkly guitar riffs to the foot-stomping percussion to the earworm chorus, everything about this track recalls the highlights of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. And just as Love and Green displayed on previous single “Deney Terrio,” they’re working with a vibe that’s not necessarily defined by a place or time, because this is truly cross-generational.
Therein lies the genius of what these two artists have crafted not only on “Nile Rodgers,” but on the entirety of Love’s forthcoming sophomore album, Free, White & 21. It’s a fitting tribute to the song’s namesake, too, because who has remained quite as relevant and consistent as Rodgers over the years? He’s been a musical force for more than four decades, and it’s easy to imagine he’d love what Love and Green have created here.
“Nile Rodgers (Git On Down)” is the 2nd instant grat track available off the album pre-order for Free, White & 21 which is set to drop Friday, July 27th through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms via Nalja Music.
