Kuji Young’s single “Taboo” is the first single from the rising R&B artist/producer. The song started out as a demo for another artist with no real direction. While watching the show “You” on Netflix, Young was inspired for the first few lines “I saw you with your man… I want you even more now.” After that he began to weave the story of the first verse.
The soul star pulled inspiration from one of his favorite artists, Sade Adu, for the nostalgic hook. “I wanted to pay homage to Sade and it just felt right with the beat and the story,” he says. “This song has become so important to me because it is my first offering to the world as Kuji Young, the artist.”
Young feels the single does a good job in bridging the gap between Gen X, Millennials and Post Millennials with its new-age, 808 heavy, yet, vibey beat and call-back lyrics.”
